The conference wishes to provide answers to the increasing demand for comprehensive policies focusing on the protection and enhancement of the huge natural and cultural heritage represented by volcanic landscapes and territories together with the people living therein, all over the world.

Moreover the creation of a permanent platform for the on-line exchange of information and experience will also be proposed to participants.

Four thematic areas are proposed for discussion, each developing its specific topics: 

• Nature and Sciences (Advances in geo-sciences, volcanology and geo-engineering. Volcanic ecosystems, biodiversity and soil fertility. Population safety and risk management. Education, public awareness…)
• Nature and Culture (Parks, geo-parks and protected areas, biosphere reserves. UNESCO’s World Heritage. Territorial and landscape management. History and archaeology, myths and societies, art literature and cinema…)
• Volcanoes and Sustainable development (Mining, specialized agriculture, renewable energies and geothermy. The special case of Volcanic Islands…)
• Volcanoes and Tourism (Exploration, trekking, thermal waters and health, cruises among volcanoes…)
