Landscape policies

England - Natural England's Policy on Landscape

Natural England has published its high level policy on landscape. Natural England’s Board approved the policy and the programme for the development of a suite of four detailed policies (i. All landscapes matter, ii. Future landscape, iii the historic environment, iv. protected landscapes) on 13 February 2008.

The Board also approved the first of a set of policy advocacy statements that express what Natural England wants to achieve through its advocacy activities.

The landscape policy and advocacy statement documents will set the scene for Natural England’s landscape work, in the new financial year and for the years ahead.

Scotland - Scottish Natural Heritage's Policy on Landscape

In December 2005, Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH) released its Landscape Policy Framework. Although produced before the UK signed the European Landscape Convention the report highlights the importance of the role of landscapes and the duty of care towards them, and the need to increase awareness and appropriate management.
